Gas
Saver Flops
You can't swing a cat (live, dead, stuffed or otherwise) without
being able to hit a product that says it saves gas. Retail stores
have shelves lined with gas saver products and online they are one
of the hottest sellers right now. But, do they work.

The short answer is that a few do, but most do not. We talk a lot
on this site about hydrogen
gas savers as products that work, and they do. But, there
are many more products that only don't work but you can get worse
gas mileage and more emissions just by using them.
The United States EPA
website has a list of gas saving products it has tested over several
decades with the vast majority having either no effect or a negative
effect on mileage and emissions.
So, what doesn't work? Magnets for one have been shown to have
no effect on gas mileage or emissions. ABC
News did its own review of gas savers especially the very popular
Tornado brand of fuel savers and you can read the results and judge
for yourself.
Platinum Gas Saver was also reviewed by ABC News as well and you
can read all about this as well. But, ABC isn't the only organization
giving thumbs down reviews to most gas saving products and Popular
Mechanics also weighs in.
In a nutshell, Popular
Mechanics gives a thumbs down to miracle magnets, vortex generators,
engine ionizers, vapor injectors and the AquaTune brand.
Now, we're not here to pass judgment, only to advise skepticism
with most gas saving products. Reading user reviews is a good way
to judge for yourself whether people who have tried this products
get the desired results.
After that, go with your best judgment and test for yourself what
device will give the optimal results for your vehicles.
